There are several factors to consider when deciding to attend school. One of the main things that can affect this decision is the opportunity for flexible scheduling, so you can fit your classes into your life.
Universal Technical Institute (UTI) has training programs that help students get the education and experience needed to prepare for careers in the automotive or diesel industries.1 An additional benefit is that courses in the Automotive Technology program and the Diesel Technology program can be taken in the evening at select campuses.
Keep reading to learn a bit more about these programs, as well as some of the advantages that come with taking night courses.
Whether you’d like to pursue a career in the automotive or diesel fields, the training programs offered at UTI can help students gain the industry experience employers are looking for.5
The 51-week Automotive Technology program helps train students to maintain, diagnose and repair many kinds of domestic and import vehicles. In addition to the flexibility of some campuses offering night courses for this program, classes also start every three to six weeks.
The 45-week Diesel Technology program helps prepare students for the industry by teaching them how to diagnose and repair commercial vehicles and heavy-equipment systems that utilize diesel technology. Some Diesel courses are offered at night at select campuses, and classes start every three weeks.
Both programs follow a blended learning model, which combines instructor-led online training with hands-on application in the lab.18 Typically, a six-hour day has students spending about half that time in the lab, in addition to the online coursework that takes about two to three hours to complete.
Knowing the basics of how these training programs are set up can be helpful when deciding whether attending night courses is right for you!
There are several benefits that can come from being able to take training program courses at night, the most obvious being the flexibility that it can provide.
If you need to hold down a full- or part-time job during the day, being able to complete your coursework and attend classes at night can make this significantly easier. Choosing to work during the day could allow you to earn an income that can help pay for school. This is a great option for those who want to reduce their need for financial aid or loans.10
Not only can this flexibility impact a student’s finances, it can also be helpful if they have other obligations during the day, such as taking care of children.
Freedom during the day can also mean that you have more time to spend studying coursework and preparing for class later that night. Not having to head to class first thing in the morning can allow you to carve out some time to go over the course material and have it fresh in your mind.
Auto repair night classes or diesel night classes could also offer the benefit of smaller class sizes, as typically those attending night classes are individuals with daytime obligations. Smaller class sizes can allow for more one-on-on communication with instructors and classmates.
According to Adrian Cordova, vice president of regional operations at UTI, night courses for the Auto and Diesel programs are currently offered at UTI campuses in Long Beach, California; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Avondale, Arizona; and Bloomfield, New Jersey.
