MARINE TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST TRAINING PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Marine Technician Specialist program is perfect for those who love the water and want to pursue a career in the marine industry. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, students will learn everything from inboard gas and diesel to outboard 4-stroke and 2-stroke motors.

SPECIALIZED MARINE MECHANIC TRAINING

Each three-week, manufacturer-specific course is designed to provide students with technical and hands-on training specific to each brand. Students learn the design and operation unique to each manufacturer.

This technical knowledge and hands-on experience prepares our marine mechanic school graduates to begin work in marinas, boatyards, marine dealers or wherever your life on the water may take you.

Marine mechanic training is available at our Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI) campus in Orlando, Florida.

WHEN CAN I START? EVERY SIX WEEKS.

Flexible scheduling and frequent start times mean it’s never too soon or too late to start your training. Marine mechanic classes begin every six weeks, with morning, afternoon and some evening classes to accommodate your schedule.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Can I complete marine mechanic training in less than one year?

    Yes! MMI’s Marine Technician Specialist training program is designed to be completed in just 51 weeks. Your coursework will cover a variety of topics, from engines and electrical systems to rigging and service operations. As a graduate, you’ll be well prepared to start your career as an entry-level technician.

  • How much can I make as an entry-level marine mechanic?

    According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for motorboat mechanics and service technicians was $41,330.31 Half of motorboat mechanics and service technicians made more and half made less. Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including employer, demand, cost of living in the area and the skill level of the technician.   • Can I train on Yamaha Marine engines?

    The Marine Technician Specialist training program is unique in that it incorporates a series of five, three-week manufacturer-specific courses. One of these is the Yamaha Marine course, where you’ll learn to work on the manufacturer’s line of products. There are 40 Yamaha outboard motors and 15 lower units on campus, giving you plenty of opportunities to get hands-on training.
