TRAIN AT UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE IN LISLE

At our campus in Lisle, Illinois, we prepare students for a career in the transportation and welding industries.1 In our Automotive Technology program, you’ll learn everything from brakes, undercar, and advanced diagnostics to vehicle power and performance for foreign and domestic vehicles.

As part of our Diesel Technology program, our dedicated diesel lab features a full line of trucks and equipment. Our Welding Technology program prepares students with the skills they need to learn to weld and pursue a career as a welder.

Automotive Mechanic Training Near Chicago, IL

If working on cars for a living sounds like an exciting career to you, consider enrolling in the Automotive Technology program at UTI Lisle, which is about 27 miles from downtown Chicago. In just 51 weeks, you’ll learn everything from simple engine systems to complex electronic systems and technology. As a graduate from the Lisle campus, you earn a diploma and are prepared to test to become ASE certified.

Diesel Mechanic Training Near Chicago, IL

UTI Lisle also offers the 45-week Diesel Technology program, where you’ll learn how to diagnose, repair and replace like a true big-engine professional. Your coursework will cover a wide variety of topics, from engine service and repair to hydraulic and electronic systems. Upon completion of the program, you earn a diploma and are prepared to complete ASE examinations.

Welding Training Near Chicago, IL

With UTI’s Welding Technology training program, you can train for the industry in less than nine months. Developed in conjunction with Lincoln Electric, your courses cover everything from welding safety guidelines to pipe welding and various types of welding processes. Upon graduation, students earn diplomas and are prepared to test for welding certifications.

SPECIALTY TRAINING PROGRAMS OFFERED

Once you complete your core classes, you could take one of our Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training programs to gain the certifications and skills to help prepare you for a career as an automotive or diesel technician. Programs include Ford FACT, Toyota TPAT and Daimler Trucks Finish First.11 Additionally, UTI offers the Fendt Technician Academy and Peterbilt PTI manufacturer-paid programs.15

Start Your ASE Certification

A graduate of UTI’s Automotive and Diesel programs accredited by the ASE Education Foundation can substitute his or her training for one year of work experience toward ASE’s two-year work requirement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is the classroom learning like?

    UTI follows a blended learning model, which includes a mix of online instructor-led training with hands-on application in the lab. This type of training is modeled after what’s used in the industry today and can provide more flexibility for students.

    UTI’s core programs follow this style, except for Welding and CNC Machining. These programs follow a hands-on learning model.

  • Are academic classes such as math, science or English required?

    While not separate classes, math and science aligned with the learning skills are incorporated into the course teachings, along with industry terminology that technicians need to succeed.

  • Are students required to have experience in order to attend?

    No, our curriculum does not require prior experience and is specifically designed to teach the skills necessary to pursue a career as a entry-level technician.

  • What certifications will I hold when I graduate?

    Graduates earn either a diploma or Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) degree, depending on the program and campus, with the possibility of additional certifications.

  • Can students work while attending UTI?

    Yes, students can work and attend school if needed. Our Career Services team can help identify local job openings based on a student’s schedule.
