First, take inventory of what you want from a career. For example, do you enjoy building things with your hands? You might want to find a trade school that offers a program like welding. Do you prefer tech-driven careers? In that case, find a trade school that offers STEM programs, like robotics.
Once you have that sorted out, ask yourself the following questions about each trade school you consider:
- Accreditation – Does the school meet recognized standards for training?
- Employer relationships – Are there relationships with local or national companies?
- Certifications – Will you graduate with credentials valued by employers?
- Program length – Can you finish in the timeline you want?
- Graduate outcomes – What are the school’s completion and employment rates?
- Support services – Does the school offer career services, financial aid help, or tutoring?
Touring the campus, meeting instructors, and talking with admissions can also help you see if the school’s culture and training style fit your needs.
