Frequently Asked Questions

COVID-19 (coronavirus) is impacting the globe in ways we haven’t seen in recent memory. The well-being of our students, staff and campus communities is our top priority, and we hope the below will help answer many of the questions you have.

Have questions we didn’t answer below? Email our Student Services team at campus_support@uti.edu.

  • Are hands-on labs open at my campus?

Our hands-on labs are currently open. UTI’s campuses are following a blended learning education model, which includes a mix of online instructor-led training with hands-on application in the lab. This is the case for automotive, diesel, motorcycle, and marine programs. All other programs include classroom and lab learning only.

  • How are you communicating COVID-19 updates?

COVID-19 updates are sent in a variety of methods, including video messaging, email, text and public announcements, along with published updates on UTI.edu. Urgent updates are broadcast through our emergency response system. We also will publish some updates on our social media channels.

If you are a student, please select your contact preference(s) by visiting http://notify.uti.edu. Please contact your Student Services representative if you need help registering.

  • Are campus tours/visits postponed due to COVID-19?

Campus tours are taking place at all campus locations. They may be modified for the health and well-being of our students, staff and guests, consistent with applicable health official guidance.

  • Are campus events postponed due to COVID-19?

Campus events are taking place at all campus locations. They may be modified for the health and well-being of our students, staff, guests and our wider communities as a whole.

  • What should I do if I'm a student who is struggling financially during the crisis?

Our Career Services staff at each campus can assist students who have lost a job and need to look for a new one.1

Additionally, our Student Services teams have community resource lists for services that include food banks and shelters. Our campus food pantry is great resource for students in need, and our Student Services team can also help qualified students apply for emergency funds as needed.

  • Have you changed the way you're cleaning/disinfecting each campus?

Each campus is working with their cleaning providers to take enhanced sanitizing measures. Additionally, we’re:

    • Cleaning high-touch surfaces multiple times daily
    • Providing hand-sanitizing stations
    • Directing individuals who show symptoms of illness to stay home and seek medical attention
    • Promote effective personal hygiene

  • Are you screening students, staff, and campus visitors for COVID-19?

EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO SELF-SCREEN before entering a UTI/MMI facility. ALL students, staff, vendors and visitors are required to complete this self-screening for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 or exposure to someone sick or symptomatic with COVID-19.

Effective September 19, 2021, the Lisle campus, in accordance with the Illinois Executive Order, will require everyone entering the building to have proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within the last 7 calendar days.

  • How can I help prevent the spread of COVID-19?

There are many things we can do as individuals to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

    • Get a COVID-19 vaccine.
    • If you are experiencing symptoms, stay home and seek medical attention.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (if soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer).
    • Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
