Aviation Mechanic Training Near You
The aviation technician programs help prepare students to apply and test for Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).128 UTI has two programs you can choose from:
The Airframe & Powerplant Technician program is available at our Avondale, Arizona; Long Beach, California; Miramar, Florida; Canton, Michigan; and Dallas and Houston, Texas campuses.
The Aviation Maintenance Technology program is offered at UTI Canton, UTI San Antonio and UTI Atlanta.* This path offers graduates an associate degree.

Train to test for aviation certification
Graduates of our aviation technician training are prepared to apply for and take the written, oral and practical tests required to qualify for FAA A&P certification.79,128 According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), aircraft mechanics and technicians are typically certified by the FAA.
Aviation Program Goals and Length
The goal of both programs is to prepare students for entry-level opportunities in various areas of the aviation industry after graduation.79
Students practice aircraft maintenance skills on industry-standard equipment in a safe and supervised setting.
The Airframe & Powerplant Technician program is designed to take 18 to 20 months to complete, depending on the location. Earning an associate degree in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program at UTI takes 18-24 months to complete, depending on location.

Students who complete the A&P program at our Canton campus can take additional courses over four months to earn an AAS degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas
The Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex is a major center for business, culture and aviation. The area offers professional sports, live music, diverse dining and a variety of attractions, making it a dynamic place to live and train for a career in aircraft maintenance.

As the fourth-most-populated city in the United States, Houston is home to an array of attractions and amenities. These include major sports venues, cultural spaces and museums and nature-filled destinations.
Long Beach, California
Long Beach is a popular city in Southern California that features plenty of beach and water activities to do in the area. In addition to boating and an array of nature attractions in Long Beach, the city also hosts annual racing events.
Miramar, Florida
South Florida offers several airports, including the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood and Miami International Airports, which can make the Miramar campus a great place to train in aviation mechanics. San Antonio, Texas

Requirements for Aviation program enrollment
To enroll in our programs, you must meet one of the following requirements:
- Possess a state-authorized, standards-based high school diploma
- Hold a state-issued GED certificate or equivalent
- Complete a recognized home-schooling program
- Provide proof of prior attendance in a Title IV-eligible program or graduation from a postsecondary degree program.23
