PARENTS

Helping your child choose a career can be both exciting and overwhelming. The decisions made now can greatly impact your child’s future, and it’s important to be as informed as possible when it comes to choosing a school.

PLANNING FOR YOUR CHILD'S FUTURE

At Universal Technical Institute (UTI), we understand that education is a major investment for most families. When you make an investment, it’s important to consider the return. As a parent, we want you to have all of the information necessary to feel empowered in helping your child make the best decision.

Technicians are in demand, and advancements in technology have opened the door to exciting, new opportunities. If your child likes to solve problems using his or her head and hands, and wants to train for a career without spending years in school, UTI’s accelerated programs can help get there.1 Planning for the future should be exciting — and our team is here to help you and your family every step of the way!

TRADE SCHOOL VS. COLLEGE: WHAT IS BEST FOR MY CHILD?

If your child has expressed interest in a career in the trades, you’ve probably asked yourself, “Is trade school right for my child?”

There’s no doubt that having a postsecondary education can lead to better career opportunities. However, this doesn’t always require a four-year college degree. For those who would rather work with their hands than sit in a classroom, attending a trade school like UTI can be an excellent choice.

While traditional four-year colleges and universities often require the completion of prerequisite courses such as math, science, history and English, a trade school education dives right into curriculum designed specifically for the student’s chosen career path. Trade schools typically offer programs that can be completed in one year or even less, which can reduce the cost spent on tuition and the time it takes to enter the workforce and begin earning an income.

One of the biggest advantages to learning a trade is growing industry demand. Skilled technicians play in important role in our world and economy, and as the older generation of technicians retires, a new generation of technicians trained in the latest technology will be needed to fill these openings.

1.7 million+ Total technician employment expected nationally by 203138
276 million+ Vehicles in the United States13

UTI graduates are blazing new trails, working with leading brands and even creating companies of their own. The knowledge and skills students gain at UTI provide a strong foundation they can build upon in today’s fast-paced industry.

ABOUT UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE

UTI is one of the nation’s leading providers of training for automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, and offers welding technology and computer numerical control (CNC) machining programs. In its 55-year-plus history, UTI has built relationships with industry leaders and delivers training that is aligned with employer needs.

Our programs were designed for the hands-on learner looking for an accelerated path to preparing for a career. Training programs start every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the campus, and some programs can prepare students for the professional workforce in less than a year.7

UTI curriculum focuses on what the industry says matters most. Whether your child has no prior experience or has already worked in the industry, they will gain skills directly related to the career they’re pursuing. Learning takes place in dynamic classroom and lab environments where students have the opportunity to train with the same tools and technologies used by technicians in the field. In addition to learning the mechanics the industry requires, students have the support of UTI instructors and staff as they pursue a career doing what they love.

REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING

When researching options for your child’s postsecondary education, an important factor to consider is reputation. The reputation of the school your child attends speaks to the value of the education they’ll receive, which can impact the opportunities that become available to them as they enter the workforce.

UTI’s reputation is built on the quality of our training and instructors, our industry relationships and the success our grads report experiencing in their careers.

NAVIGATING YOUR FINANCES: OUR TEAM IS HERE TO HELP

The cost of your student’s education is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a school. At UTI, we strive to put our programs within reach of everyone. We believe your family should feel in control when it comes to financing your education, which is why we share costs of your UTI tuition upfront so you can plan accordingly.

A variety of options may be available to you in order to reduce the cost of your student’s training, including financial aid, scholarships10 and grants. Additionally, some graduates could benefit from UTI’s Tuition Reimbursement Incentive Program (TRIP), which may include student loan repayment assistance, tool purchase assistance and sign-on bonuses.14

If you have questions about the financial aspect of your child’s education, we’re here to help. Our Financial Aid team can walk you and your student through every step of the process, from calculating tuition costs to applying for financial aid.

QUALITY CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTORS

At UTI, we take great pride in the quality of our curriculum and instructors. Our curriculum was created in conjunction with leading manufacturers in order to teach students in-demand skills employers look for. This is a reason why companies trust UTI to train the technicians they hire.

UTI instructors are more than just teachers — they’re mentors. Our instructors possess years of experience working in the field, allowing them to integrate real-world application into their coursework. They have a passion for empowering the next generation and are eager to share their knowledge and experience with students. In fact, many of our instructors are UTI graduates themselves! Their main priority is to empower students toward success — whether it’s spending time outside of class to help a student understand a concept or giving advice for an upcoming job interview.

HOW TO HELP YOUR CHILD CHOOSE A CAREER

A common concern among parents is that their child doesn’t know what to study after high school. As a parent, there are ways you can support them in making this decision.

If you’re wondering how to help a teenager choose a career, encourage them to explore their interests. For example, if they have always loved cars, it may be possible to turn this passion into a career as an automotive technician. Giving them space to explore different avenues can open their eyes to new possibilities.
