Known for its rich history, cheesesteaks and being home to the Eagles of the NFL, there are plenty of fun things to do and see in nearby Philadelphia. The state is also home to Universal Technical Institute Exton — a hub for automotive, diesel, welding, and robotics and automation enthusiasts.*
At the 178,000 square-foot UTI Exton campus, labs feature state-of-the-industry equipment that gives students the hands-on training they need to prepare for the shop environment.1 The campus features a Roush Yates Power & Performance lab, where students can learn to tear down and rebuild engines. It also has a diesel lab featuring a full line of trucks and equipment.
At UTI, we encourage students to have a balance between work and play. After all, your student experience should be enjoyable! The American Helicopter Museum focuses on the history, science and technology of rotary-wing aviation. The museum offers a collection of more than 40 civilian and military autogyros, convertiplane and helicopters, including early generation models.
Considered a hands-on museum, visitors can actually sit in a real helicopter and operate the controls. They can also fly a realistic flight simulator. Admission for adults is $10, and a schedule of upcoming events and hours can be found on the museum’s website.
If you’re looking for free things to do in Exton, check out Chester Valley Trail. This multiuse, 14.7-mile trail goes through central Chester County from West Whiteland Township east into Montgomery County. Whether you want to go for a run or take your dog for a walk, this is the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the fresh Pennsylvania air.
The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence located in Philadelphia, which is about 35 miles southeast of UTI Exton. In addition to seeing the famous bell, you can explore the exhibits that line the Liberty Bell Center, where you can learn about the founding of the bell, its use by abolitionists, and more. Admission is free, making this a great location to add to your bucket list.
While you’re in Philadelphia, be sure to stop by the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This museum is known as the cultural heart of the city and is home to more than 200 galleries of world-class art, including sculptures, paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, armor and more.
The Franklin Institute is a museum and hub for science education and research in Philadelphia. The attraction houses the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial. In addition to its wide variety of exhibits, the museum hosts live science shows, dissections and even has escape rooms and a planetarium to explore. Each day at the museum is different, so be sure to check out the events calendar when planning your visit.
Since its opening in 1997, QVC Studio Park has become a popular destination for thousands of visitors. Located in West Chester, which is about 9 miles from UTI Exton, this attraction gives you an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes to bring QVC to life.
This broadcasting facility will allow you to see how QVC products are sourced, tested and delivered to QVC’s millions of customers. Depending on when you visit, you may be able to watch a live QVC program! Learn more about the variety of different studio tour options on the QVC website.
Located in the rolling hills of Chester County, Marsh Creek State Park is a 1,784-acre park that surrounds Marsh Creek Lake. If you’re looking for a place to fish, go sailing or take a relaxing walk through nature, this is a great option. The park also offers hands-on activities, guided walks and evening programs, where you can learn more about the nature and culture of the area. More details can be found on the park’s website.
Maple Grove Raceway is a quarter-mile drag strip that opened in 1962. The track is sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association and is located near Mohnton, about 24 miles northwest of UTI Exton. The raceway hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including big-truck drag racing, block parties and old-school car shows. Ticket pricing and scheduling information can be found on the Maple Grove website.
At Grandview Speedway, NASCAR vehicles, modifieds, late models and other cars go head-to-head. This high-banked, one-third-mile clay oval is filled with generations of history since its opening in 1963. The speedway offers free parking, affordable tickets and great food. Word on the street is that the french fries are delicious! Racing fans can sign up to watch warmups from inside turn four and can even enter the pits after the races to meet the drivers.
If you’re a motocross fan, you’ll love Pagoda Motorcycle Club Motocross Track. Opened in 1945, the track hosts motocross, supercross, poker runs, pool matches, picnics and junk-car races. Be sure to check out the track’s race schedule, where you can learn more information about upcoming events and admission fees.
