Located near Tamarac, Florida, Universal Technical Institute (UTI) offers a welding school that helps students prepare to pursue exciting careers in a variety of industries. From combination welding to reading blueprints and adhering to safety standards — graduates from UTI Miramar gain entry-level skills that employers are looking for.1 Read on to learn more about the program.
Narrowing down your “welding school near me” search can feel overwhelming. If you’re in or around the Tamarac area, consider UTI’s Miramar welding school. The campus is about 23 miles south of Tamarac, and the program takes just 36 weeks to complete.
Through in-depth instruction and hands-on training led by experienced instructors, students learn how to properly use current technology and equipment. For example, UTI Miramar Welding students train with VRTEX® virtual welders, a tool that simulates welding to help students learn to think on their feet and adjust their skills as necessary.
This type of welding training helps students prepare to pursue entry-level positions in roles like welder, welder fitter, or fabrication welder.

Welding skills are in demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), renewing the country’s aging infrastructure will require repairs that demand welding skills. Welders will also continue to be vital to manufacturing plants that create metal components and goods. While welders often work in manufacturing plants, they can also be found at automotive repair shops, oil rigs, railroads, farms and more.
According to the BLS, the median annual salary for welders, cutters, solderers and brazers in the South Florida area was $46,930 in May 2022.26 This means half earned more and half earned less. Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.

The automotive technician school at UTI Miramar is a 51-week program7 that provides students with the entry-level skills they need to pursue careers in the automotive industry.
Students receive hands-on training18 in an environment that resembles what’s found in automotive shops.
At the end of their training, students can pursue entry-level roles like automotive technician, smog inspector, service writer and parts associate. If they want to sharpen their skill sets before entering the industry, they can look into applying for specialized automotive training, which is offered at other UTI campuses nationwide.
UTI’s diesel technician school is a 45-week program7 that teaches students to maintain diesel engines and equipment.
Students gain practical skills replacing faulty parts, inspecting and testing vehicles to ensure proper operation, performing maintenance, and inspecting various components like transmissions, steering and braking systems.
In less than a year, graduates of the Diesel program can seek entry-level diesel technician roles. They can also choose to apply for specialized diesel training that’s available at other UTI campuses across the country.
The airframe and powerplant school, at UTI Miramar79 is designed to teach students the fundamentals of aircraft maintenance and repair.
For 18 months, students train in industry-standard labs and cover courses like Airframe Environmental Systems and Airframe Inspections, Assembly and Rigging, Basic Sheet Metal, and more.
In less than two years, students are prepared to pursue entry-level aviation careers. Potential positions for graduates to pursue include field technician, turbine technician or aviation mechanic.77 (Program coming to UTI Miramar pending FAA approval.)
