Known as the theme park capital of the world, there are plenty of fun things to do in Orlando. The sunny state of Florida has so much more to offer than just theme parks, though. From the hustle and bustle of downtown Orlando to its breathtaking shores, there’s an endless amount of things to see and do. It’s no wonder the city attracts over 60 million visitors every year!

Orlando is the only city that is home to three Universal Technical Institute campuses.

Whether you’re interested in automotive, diesel, motorcycle mechanics or marine, Orlando has a UTI campus for you.

At UTI, we encourage students to have a balance between work and play. After all, your student experience should be enjoyable! Whether you live in Florida or will be traveling from another state to attend UTI, this guide is for you. Read along as we share some fun things to do in Orlando when you need a study break.

Universal Studios

One of the most famous spots in Orlando, Universal Studios attracts visitors from around the world. The park is full of rides and attractions based on some of your favorite movies and TV shows. From Harry Potter to Despicable Me, you’ll have the chance to burst through the screen and become part of the story through rides and other immersive experiences.

Tickets to Universal Studios can be pricey—but there are ways to save by finding cheap things to do in Orlando. For example, Universal CityWalk is a hub located just outside the park filled with shopping, restaurants, shows and more. Entry to CityWalk is free, and guests who purchase two or more matinee tickets receive free regular parking from 11am-6pm. After 6pm, free self-parking is available to all guests.

Kennedy Space Center

If you have a love for the world of space, look no further than Kennedy Space Center. This complex is organized into ‘mission zones,’ where attractions and tours are grouped by chronological era. From the beginning of space exploration to current and ongoing missions, you can get an up-close, hands-on experience as you learn about space ventures over time.

Lake Eola

While some of Florida’s attractions cost, there are plenty of free things to do in Orlando. Located near the heart of downtown Orlando, Lake Eola offers beautiful views and a 9-mile walking sidewalk that’s perfect for taking a stroll. The lake is also known for being home to some very large swans, too! Throughout the year, the city of Orlando puts on various free events, like movie showings.

Ripley’s Believe It or Not

Curiosity seekers, unite! Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium showcases a variety of strange attractions, from shrunken heads to incredible artwork. Bizarre, mysterious and weird are some of the words that have been used to describe this experience. The Orlando location is surrounded by restaurants, hotels and shops—making it the perfect place to stop as you explore Orlando.

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World is the most visited vacation resort in the world, with an average annual attendance of over 52 million visitors! With four different theme parks to explore, you’ll never run out of things to do at Disney World Orlando. Each time you visit the park, there’s something new to see.

In addition to the theme park itself, you can also visit Disney Springs—an outside shopping, dining and entertainment complex near Bay Lake. Entry and parking for Disney Springs is free—making it a great way to experience the magic of Disney without having to splurge on tickets to the park.

Daytona Beach

Nothing beats a relaxing day at the beach. Located a little over an hour from campus, Daytona Beach is the perfect day trip. The Daytona area is packed with rides, arcades and free summer concerts right near the boardwalk.

Cocoa Beach

Similar to Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach is about an hour away from UTI Orlando. Known for its surf breaks, Cocoa Beach is the perfect place to catch a wave or explore the pier, which is lined with restaurants and shops.

I-Drive NASCAR Indoor Kart Racing

This wouldn’t be a UTI roundup without mentioning local racetracks in the area! At I-Drive NASCAR Indoor Kart Racing, you can drive state-of-the-art electric race karts that go up to 45 mph. In addition to the racing, there is also an arcade with over 60 games, a 4-lane bowling alley, 3 pool tables and a full restaurant and bar with a view of the race track.

Daytona International Speedway

Home of the famous Daytona 500 race, one of the most iconic and prestigious races in all of NASCAR, Daytona International Speedway hosts a variety of motorsports events and races throughout the year—including stock car, sports car, motorcycle and go-karting. If you love the thrill and excitement of the race track, add this to the top of your list of places to visit.

Orlando Speedworld Dragway

Last but certainly not least, Orlando Speedworld Dragway is a longtime destination for the Orlando World Street Nationals, drag racing and other events. Originally built in 1966, this drag strip with a quarter mile racing surface is NHRA sanctioned. There’s never a dull moment at this drag strip—there are always plenty of events to attend, and they update the schedule on their website regularly.

There you have it—a list of paid, free and cheap, fun things to do in Orlando for students! We hope you enjoy exploring all the sunshine state has to offer.
