Universal Studios
Universal Studios is one of the most famous spots in Orlando and attracts visitors from around the world. The park is full of rides and attractions based on some of your favorite movies and TV shows. From Harry Potter to Despicable Me, you’ll have the chance to burst through the screen and become part of the story through rides and other immersive experiences.
Tickets to Universal Studios can be pricey, but there are ways to save by finding inexpensive things to do in Orlando. For example, Universal CityWalk is a hub located just outside the park. Entry is free, and the area is filled with shopping, restaurants, shows and more.
Kennedy Space Center
If you have a love for the world of space, look no further than Kennedy Space Center. This complex is organized into “mission zones,” where attractions and tours are grouped by chronologically. From the beginning of space exploration to current and ongoing missions, you can get an up-close, hands-on experience.
Lake Eola
There are plenty of free things to do in Orlando. Located near the heart of downtown, Lake Eola offers beautiful views and is circled by a 0.9-mile sidewalk that’s perfect for taking a stroll. The lake is also known for being home to some very large swans! Throughout the year, the city of Orlando puts on various free events, like movie showings.
Ripley’s Believe It or Not
Curiosity seekers, unite! Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium showcases a variety of strange attractions, from shrunken heads to incredible artwork. Bizarre, mysterious and weird are some of the words that have been used to describe this experience. The Orlando location is surrounded by restaurants, hotels and shops, making it a great place to stop as you explore Orlando.
Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World is the most visited vacation resort in the world, with an average annual attendance of more than 58 million visitors reported in 2018! With four different theme parks to explore, you’ll never run out of things to do. Each time you visit the park, there’s something new to see.
You can also visit Disney Springs — an outside shopping, dining and entertainment complex near Bay Lake. Entry and parking for Disney Springs is free, making it a great way to experience the magic of Disney without having to splurge on tickets to the park.
Daytona Beach
Nothing beats a relaxing day at the beach. Located about 80 miles from campus, Daytona Beach is the perfect day trip. The Daytona area is packed with rides, arcades and free summer concerts right near the boardwalk.
Cocoa Beach
Cocoa Beach is about 60 miles from campus. Known for its surf breaks, Cocoa Beach is the perfect place to catch a wave or explore the pier, which is lined with restaurants and shops.
Daytona International Speedway
Home to the Daytona 500, one of the most iconic and prestigious races in all of NASCAR, Daytona International Speedway hosts a variety of motorsports events and races throughout the year, including stock car, sports car, motorcycle and go-karting. If you love the thrill and excitement of the racetrack, add this to the top of your list of places to visit.
Orlando Speed World Dragway
Last but certainly not least, Orlando Speed World Dragway is a longtime destination for the Orlando World Street Nationals, drag racing and other events. Built in 1966, this drag strip with a quarter-mile racing surface is NHRA sanctioned. There’s never a dull moment at this drag strip! There are always plenty of events to attend, and the schedule is updated regularly on the website.
