What Is a Trade School?
A trade school offers training programs that help students prepare for careers in fields like automotive, welding, diesel, HVACR, robotics and more. Unlike traditional colleges, trade school programs focus only on what you need to know to get started in your chosen field. That means no general education classes and no time wasted.
Universal Technical Institute's mission is simple: Serve our students, industry relationships and communities by delivering quality education for in-demand careers. Here’s what makes us stand out among trade school programs for high school students, career changers and veterans alike.

Through hands-on lab training, you can spend time turning wrenches, testing systems and solving real-world problems — not just reading about them.18
3. Experienced and Supportive Instructors
Our instructors aren’t just teachers — they’re pros with years of experience in the field. They can teach you the skillset needed to work in the field you want a job in after graduation. They’re also here to help you understand the tools, systems and knowledge needed to succeed.
Whether you’re brand new to the trades or already have some experience, your instructors are invested in your growth and educational success.

4. Specialized MSAT Training Opportunities
We also offer Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training (MSAT) programs.11 These programs are designed in collaboration with industry leaders, helping students gain brand-specific skills needed to become specialized professionals.
That means the curriculum aligns with these employers' demands — and that students train on real manufacturing equipment. Some programs, like Motorcycle and Marine, already include manufacturer-specific training as a component of the curriculum. Others can be undertaken after completing the core training of certain programs, such as Auto and Diesel.
5. Industry Employer Relationships
UTI has relationships with thousands of employers across the country — from local repair shops to national chains. These industry leaders have hired our graduates and some even offer hiring incentives for students, such as:
- Tool purchase assistance19
- Student loan reimbursement14
- Tuition incentives
- Job opportunities while still in school (through UTI’s Early Employment Program)36
These relationships matter because who you train with should also help you take your next step after graduating.

6. Hands-On Labs With Current Technology
You can’t train on outdated equipment and expect to be job-ready. At UTI, we work with aftermarket and OEM brands to make sure the tools and tech you use in class reflect what shops use in the field.
From diagnostic scanners to hydraulic lifts and specialized welding gear, you’ll train with real-world tools.
7. Student Support Services
Paying for school is a concern for a lot of students — and UTI gets that. That’s why we offer help with:
- Financial aid (for those who qualify)10
- Housing assistance
- Career services
We want you to succeed. Learn more about how we’ll show up for you in the video below.

Your training at UTI leads to more than just skills after graduation — it leads to credentials. Whether it’s a diploma, degree or certification (depending on the program), completing your training shows employers you’re trained, qualified and ready to work.
9. Empowering Women in Skilled Trades
Women belong in the trades — and we're working to make that clear. We support women pursuing careers and training in our trade school programs, including Automotive, Welding, HVACR and more. Through community, mentorship and visibility, we aim to increase access and break barriers.

10. Post-Graduate Career Opportunities
UTI graduates work in a wide range of industries — from dealerships and fleet maintenance shops to major manufacturers and motorsports. Many started training with no experience and left with the skills they needed to pursue long-term careers.
