UTI’s Manual Transmission course is designed to equip students with the expertise needed to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair issues in manual transmissions, transaxles and related driveline components.1

What You'll Learn in the Manual Transmission Course

After completing this course, students will be able to diagnose and repair longitudinal and transverse manual transmissions/transaxle complaints associated with clutch, shifter mechanisms, synchronizers, final drive and half shaft assemblies.

This course covers:

Troubleshooting Rear Axle Noise and Vibration

Students are taught to identify and address the cause of rear axle noise and vibration complaints. This includes developing techniques to accurately pinpoint issues and implement effective repair solutions.

Diagnosing Limited Slip and Locking Differential Issues

A main part of the manual transmission class is understanding the operation of limited slip and locking differentials. Students are taught to diagnose concerns with these systems and utilize specialty tools for their repair.

Repairing 4WD and AWD Systems

The manual transmission course covers the principles and components of four-wheel-drive (4WD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) systems. Students are taught to troubleshoot and repair these complex systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Understanding Manual Transmission and Transaxle Components

Students will explore the inner workings of longitudinal and transverse manual transmissions and transaxles. This includes diagnosing and repairing common issues related to clutches, shifter mechanisms and synchronizers.

Servicing Final Drive and Half Shaft Assemblies

In-depth training is provided on final drive systems and half shaft assemblies, enabling students to diagnose and repair these critical components with precision and efficiency.

Specialty Tools for Driveline Repairs

The manual transmission course emphasizes the proper selection and use of specialty tools for driveline repairs. Students get hands-on practice with industry-standard equipment, preparing them to pursue professional automotive work.18
