Just 22 miles from Orange, CA, UTI’s auto mechanic training program prepares students to pursue entry-level roles within the industry in less than one year.7

For 51 weeks, students participate in a blended-learning model where they spend half their time learning online and the other half applying what they’ve learned in state-of-the-industry labs. Our learning model closely resembles the type of ongoing training technicians encounter in the field, further preparing graduates for the industry.7

After completing the program, graduates receive an Associate of Occupational Studies degree. They can also substitute their training for one of the two years of hands-on experience required to test for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification!

Students learn to repair various types of automobiles through comprehensive courses that were developed as a direct response to industry leaders’ feedback so that graduates can develop in-demand, relevant skills. Course topics include:

  • Automotive Engines Service & Repair
  • Professional Automotive Service Writing
  • Automotive Powertrains & Transmissions
  • Vehicle Steering and Suspension Service and Repair
  • Vehicle Brake Systems
  • Vehicle Electronic Systems and Technology
  • Automotive Climate Control Systems and Repair
  • Roush Yates Performance Tuning

UTI’s Long Beach auto mechanic school offers a 12-week manufacturer-specific advanced training program with BMW that provides students an opportunity to earn seven factory credentials and build a specialized skillset for a number of BMW vehicles.

Automotive mechanic skills are in demand across the nation, and Southern California’s busy roadways can make it an exciting region to pursue the career path.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), California had the highest employment level of automotive service technicians and mechanics in the United States in May 2021.

When it comes to salary, the BLS reported that the median annual salary for automotive service technicians and mechanics in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA area was $59,770 in May 2022.25 This means half of the automotive technicians earned more and half earned less. Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.

Our automotive training program prepares students for entry-level roles as automotive technicians, service writers, smog inspectors and parts associates. Although most of our grads start out working as entry-level technicians or in other entry-level roles, as with any industry, over time, you may be able to advance in your career with hard work.

Some common roles that experienced technicians may be able to advance into include shop owner, fleet technician, service manager or diagnostic technician.77

While these entry-level and advanced roles are good paths to aim for, their availability in Orange, CA, may vary. However, UTI Long Beach is staffed with skilled career service specialists that maintain contact with employers across the country. They can help graduates and alumni look for potential career or advancement opportunities that match their level of experience.
