UTI Grad Wins Platinum Award at Cavallino Classic Car Show

5/9/2018

It’s hours before showtime, and Greg Miller is deep in the electrical system of a 1992 Ferrari 348 Challenge trying to tighten up the air conditioning relay.

A dysfunctional button can make all the difference to the Cavallino Classic car show judges. They are Ferrari experts, capable of distinguishing an original rosso corsa Ferrari from a red paint imposter. They won’t hold back from exposing a vehicle’s imperfections.

Miller never imagined himself showcasing a Ferrari at the famous Palm Beach Cavallino Classic. He never expected that the business he started would bring him here. He just loved working on cars.

At 12 years old, Miller began exploring the family car. He learned the fundamentals of diagnosing and repairing vehicles in his parent’s garage. It was a passion he pursued through his high school years and he decided to turn it into a career by exploring tech schools and eventually enrolling at Universal Technical Institute’s campus in Houston, Texas.1

In addition to core program training, Miller was accepted into the BMW STEP specialized training program, which was offered at the time at UTI Houston. The program is now called BMW FastTrack.

“BMW STEP definitely gave me a leg up, and without UTI I wouldn’t have ended up there.”15

After graduating from UTI, Miller enjoyed a 10-year career at BMW, and his experience with performance vehicles made him eligible for opportunities at Ferrari. It was during his time as a Ferrari service adviser that Miller decided to start his own automotive repair business.

GREG MILLER LOUDOUN COUNTY EXOTICS OWNERS

Miller and his partner, Casey Bremlist, opened Loudon County Exotics in 2017. In that same year, they got the call of a lifetime.

A New York car collector personally requested that Miller prepare his 1992 Ferrari 348 Challenge to showcase at the Cavallino Classic Car show; the nation’s largest annual Ferrari gathering.

The particular 348 was more than just a Ferrari, it was the prototype used in 1992 to present the Challenge to potential buyers. Collectors from all over the world drove this Challenge on Ferrari’s test track in Italy, and now it was in Miller’s garage in Virginia.

As a precaution, Miller traveled with the 348 Challenge to the show in Florida. Vintage vehicles can be volatile, and Miller was on standby in case anything went wrong.

Naturally, something did.

The air conditioning relay shook loose during a track event before the show, and Miller didn’t waste any time getting it back in place. He wasn’t about to let a loose relay ruin this once in a lifetime opportunity.

As the judge examined the Challenge and tested all of the systems, Miller was relieved he identified a small problem that would’ve meant a massive point reduction.

GREG MILLER 2018 CAVALLINO

Of the thousands of Ferraris and luxury vehicles showing at Cavallino, Miller’s 1992 348 Ferrari Challenge was the only one to achieve a near perfect score. The judges awarded the Challenge Platinum First in Class and Best V-8 Ferrari.

Only one vehicle wins platinum honors, and it’s extremely rare to win the top prize as a first-time shower, but Miller’s training, work ethic and passion prepared him for this total victory.
