What Does the Certification Process Actually Look Like?

2. Register for your exam(s)

ASE exams are administered at testing centers nationwide. You’ll need to create an account on the ASE website, select which test(s) you want to take, pay the exam fee and schedule your appointment.

3. Study and prepare

Each ASE exam covers specific technical content, and preparation is key. Most successful test-takers use a combination of study guides, practice tests and review of real-world repair scenarios.

4. Take the exam(s)

ASE exams are computer-based and consist of multiple-choice questions. The number of questions and time allotted vary by test, but exams are generally 50–75 questions.

5. Recertify every five years

ASE certifications are valid for five years. To maintain your credentials, you’ll need to retest, which keeps your skills current as vehicle technology evolves.
