Industrial Maintenance Techs Make an Impact

Have you heard of this career that impacts almost every industry in the modern world? UTI Instructor Arturo Lopez is here to introduce you to the exciting and essential field of industrial maintenance technology (IMT).

Whether you’re already passionate about mechanics or just exploring your options, the IMT program offers a path toward an exciting career that keeps the wheels of industry turning.1

What Is Industrial Maintenance Technology?

Industrial maintenance technology is a critical field that ensures the smooth operation of the machinery and systems that power our world. From the food we eat to the cars we drive, almost everything we rely on daily involves industrial maintenance. Arturo explains, “Industrial maintenance is basically everything that we know in the modern world... Our main job as technicians is to maintain minimum downtime for factories out in the industry.”

In other words, industrial maintenance technicians are the unsung heroes who keep factories and production lines running efficiently. Without them, industries would face costly downtimes, affecting everything from manufacturing to the availability of everyday products.

Why Choose a Career in Industrial Maintenance?

For those who love to tinker and are curious about how things work, a career in industrial maintenance can be incredibly fulfilling. Arturo, who has over 24 years of experience in the field, started as a mechanic and gradually expanded his expertise into electrical systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), controls and even robotics.

“If you truly enjoy tinkering, I highly recommend that you become an industrial maintenance technician,” Arturo says.

This career is not just about fixing things. It’s about preventing problems before they happen and ensuring that complex systems work seamlessly. As Arturo puts it, the role of an industrial maintenance technician is “to maintain minimum downtime for factories,” making it a vital job in any industry.

Benefits of Trade School for Aspiring Technicians

Arturo is a firm believer in the value of trade school, especially for those considering a career in industrial maintenance. “I personally believe the trade school route should be something that everybody should go through before they go into engineering school,” Arturo shares. By starting with hands-on training, students can gain practical education and see if this field is truly the right fit for them before committing to more advanced studies.

Trade schools like UTI offer the environment to learn the ropes of industrial maintenance technology. Students get hands-on training with the tools, systems, and challenges faced in the real world, all under the guidance of experienced instructors like Arturo.

Train for a Career With UTI’s IMT Program

One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching, according to Arturo, is watching his students grow and develop into skilled professionals. “What I enjoy the most about being an instructor is the students.”

The Industrial Maintenance Technician program at UTI is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue this dynamic field. From basic mechanical skills to advanced robotics and motion control systems, the program covers everything you need to know to start a career in industrial maintenance.

Take the First Step Toward an Exciting Career

If you’re unsure whether industrial maintenance is the right path for you, Arturo encourages you to explore it further. “If you’re hesitant about taking that jump, I would highly recommend that you come over to our campus and take a look,” he says. “Let us convince you that this is the right path for you.”
