Career Training Near Ann Arbor

Universal Technical Institute (UTI)’s trade school near Ann Arbor, Michigan, focuses on hands-on skills. While enrolled, students can prepare for real career opportunities in two years or less.1 In our six core programs at UTI Canton, instructors teach in lab settings that reflect the tools, tasks and professional expectations of actual technicians and welders.

Airframe and Powerplant

Study aircraft troubleshooting, hydraulic systems, powerplant fundamentals and more. Graduates of the 20-month Airframe and Powerplant Technician program earn certificates, while graduates of the 24-month Aviation Maintenance Technology program earn an associate of applied science degree (AAS).79

Energy Technology

This program covers the core technologies behind modern energy production. Over 18 months, Energy Technology students train in power generation, wind power, compression systems and powerplant operations. Graduates earn AAS degrees.

HVACR Technician

With 10 months of intensive, hands-on instruction, the HVACR Technician program teaches students how to handle maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems used in the field. Graduates earn certificates.

Industrial Maintenance Technician

Industrial Maintenance Technician students train for seven months to learn the systems, tools and repair techniques needed to maintain industrial-grade machinery used throughout gas and coal industries. Graduates earn certificates.

Robotics and Automation

Two robotics and automation programs are available at our Canton campus, both structured to prepare students for roles like robotics & automation technician, control systems technician or maintenance technician. Completing the 12-month Robotics and Automation Technician program earns a certificate, while the 18-month Robotics & Automation Technology program earns associate of applied science (AAS) degree.

Welding Specialist

The Welding Specialist program delivers 10 months of training in all four major arc welding methods, preparing students with the practical, shop-ready skills required for welding roles in manufacturing. Graduates earn certificates.

Wind Power Technician

Wind Power Technician students complete seven months of training focused on electrical systems, hydraulics, turbine operations and other skills needed to enter the renewable energy field. Graduates earn certificates.
