Ricky Escobedo: From Aspiring Technician to Master Technician at Ford

"One advantage about taking the Ford FACT program was that coming out of the program, I was already certified."

As a master technician for more than 17 years at Galpin Ford, Ricky Escobedo has carved out a successful career specializing in brakes and front-end work. But this didn’t just happen by coincidence. Ricky worked hard to get where he is today not only on his own time, but also in a technical training program at Universal Technical Institute (UTI).1

The Path to Mastery

Ricky's excitement toward cars started early as he worked on vehicles with his parents as a kid. This early interest set the stage for his future career. "Ever since I was a kid, I would work on cars with my parents," Ricky recalls.

Recognizing his passion, he decided to formalize his training and enrolled at UTI. There, he completed the Automotive Technology program and the Ford FACT program, gaining crucial skills and credentials that would help him to propel his career forward.1

The Impact of UTI and Ford FACT

Ricky's decision to attend UTI was influenced by a representative who visited his high school. The Ford FACT program in particular played a significant role in getting on the path toward success.6 "One advantage about taking the Ford FACT program was that coming out of the program, I was already certified," Ricky explains. This allowed him to dive into his role at Galpin Ford with confidence and competence.

The training and credentials he received through the program helped him get started, and he has continued to stay at the top of his game, ensuring he stays current with the latest automotive technologies and techniques.

Thriving at Galpin Ford

After graduating from UTI, Ricky applied to Galpin Ford and was quickly hired. He has been with the company since 2007, steadily building his expertise and reputation. "I've been working at Galpin for 17 years," Ricky proudly states. His dedication to his craft and attention to detail have been key to his success. He emphasizes the importance of being on time, having a willingness to learn, and taking pride in one's work—qualities that he believes are essential for any successful technician.

Looking Ahead

Ricky's journey is far from over. While he has achieved significant milestones, he continues to set new goals for himself. "My goals after being a tech for so long are to eventually move up, maybe to shop foreman," he shares. His commitment to continuous improvement and growth is a testament to his love for the automotive industry.

His journey from a passionate young car enthusiast to a seasoned master technician at Galpin Ford highlights the transformative power of vocational training and the possibilities in the industry.
