51 weeks of automotive courses like Automotive Service Engines Service and Repair, Automotive Powertrains and Transmission and Professional Automotive Service Writing help prepare students for entry-level positions, like automotive tech, service writer or smog inspector.⁷,⁷⁷ The curriculum also helps prepare students to test for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification as they can substitute their training for one of the two years of hands-on experience required to take the exam.

At UTI Lisle, the Diesel Technology program is a 45-week course that culminates in a diploma.⁷ The program offers hands-on instruction on Diesel Truck Preventative Maintenance, Vehicle Electronic Systems and Technology, Diesel Hydraulic Systems and other essential aspects of diesel technology. Upon graduation, students earn one of the two years of hands-on experience necessary to test for ASE certification.¹⁸
