According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual salary for welders, cutters, solderers and brazers in the South Florida area was $46,930 in May 2022.26 This means half earned more and half earned less. Keep in mind that salary depends on several factors, including experience, employer, demand and cost of living in the area.

Welding can be an exhilarating path if you’re detail oriented and enjoy physical work and solving problems. Let’s look at a few paths for welders looking to make their mark on the industries they serve.

Upon completing UTI’s welding training program, most of our graduates start out working in entry-level welding roles. As with any industry, over time, they may be able to advance in their careers with hard work.77 A few common welding career paths for experienced welders include:

  • Structural iron and steel welding: These types of welders support the construction industry by helping with civil engineering projects that include welds for large commercial buildings and highway bridge construction.
  • Pressure vessel/pipe welding: These welders operate heavy machinery to shape pipes before welding them together for use in buildings, vessels and other structures.
  • Welding machine operator: Operators use and maintain welding machines that bond metal. They enter operating instructions into the machine’s associated software system, adhere to production schedules and specifications, calibrate fixtures, and ensure the quality of final pieces.

While these entry-level and advanced welding careers are exciting paths to pursue, the demand where you live can affect job availability. Luckily, UTI Miramar has Career Services specialists who maintain contact with employers across the nation, so that they can help students look for career opportunities that pique their interest in Pembroke Pines and other regions.1
