Located in the heart of Southern California, Universal Technical Institute’s Rancho Cucamonga campus is a place where you can snowboard in the morning, surf in the afternoon and off road in the desert the following day. That’s the allure of the popular area with a proximity to land, sea and desert.
Rancho Cucamonga is also a hub for trucks and vehicles--every technician’s dream! Located by the hustle and bustle of local businesses, trucks and vehicles are constantly going through the facility…which means skilled diesel, automotive and welding technicians are needed to get the job done. This demand creates exciting opportunities for aspiring technicians, making UTI Rancho Cucamonga the perfect place to train.
Opened in 2004, UTI Rancho Cucamonga is 147,227 square feet with 8 labs and 50 classrooms. The campus offers three core programs: Automotive, Diesel and Welding in addition to specialized training programs for Ford and Peterbilt. Rancho is the only campus in California that offers a welding course and a SMOG elective, making it a popular destination for those interested in pursuing careers in the industry.
Rancho Cucamonga offers three sessions students can choose from, which makes it a great choice for career transitioners who are looking for flexibility and would benefit from evening class sessions. Not only that, the Rancho campus is a degree granting institution, as students earn an Associate of Occupational Studies degree and an Associate’s degree in automotive or diesel upon graduation.
UTI Rancho Cucamonga is dedicated to providing students with the resources they need to succeed. Instructors and the Student Services team work closely together to ensure students are supported both in and out of the classroom.
Rancho instructors and staff have created a strong community approach. According to campus president Migdalia Vazquez-Valle, when students feel supported and are proud to call school their second home, they feel like they’re part of something greater and are motivated to succeed. This is why the Rancho campus strives to create an environment that is inclusive to all students.
Many students from the Rancho campus have gone onto pursue careers in diesel and automotive, some in only a mere 7 months. And three days a year, on Wednesdays, the campus puts on a local career fair where they invite employers to interview students who are getting ready to go into their automotive, diesel and welding careers.
Employers from top brands are invited to these career fairs to give students relevant, in the field jobs. Companies like Penske, Toyota, Velocity trucking, and Audi of Ontario are among the attendees, and many times offers are given to students on the spot.
There are countless success stories that come from the Rancho Cucamonga campus, but one in particular involves a certain student, a middle child who was getting into trouble, but turned his life around and started following in his father’s footsteps. This student attended UTI in Rancho Cucamonga and even got selected for the prestigious BMW school, which requires a 95% attendance record and a 3.5 GPA.
But there’s more. One former student even won the mikeroweWORKS Foundation Work Ethic Scholarship, and another Rancho Cucamonga graduate currently works for Jay Leno’s Garage.
Student success stories like these are what keep instructors and staff going. UTI Rancho Cucamonga is committed to student success, providing them with the support they need to focus on their training and achieve their goals.
With a 72% Hispanic population, what makes this campus tick? According to Migdalia Vazquez-Valle, campus president, “Our approach is to build community, especially with the local businesses and government officials.”
The campus is involved with the Rancho Cucamonga Chamber of Commerce, which has provided a great opportunity to tell the UTI story and gain the support of the community. UTI also gives back by participating in toy drives, car shows that raise money for charity and more.
To get a real feel for what makes UTI Rancho Cucamonga so valuable for students, take it from Dr. Adonis Phillips, Director of Campus Employment Services: “The world shuts down if there are no diesel mechanics. Without diesel techs, the city of LA would only survive a mere 24 hours.”
“The world shuts down if there are no auto techs. If people don’t have their cars fixed, they can’t go to work. The world needs our students to continue to grow, to continue to commute, otherwise, there would just be chaos,” he continues.
As you can see, the opportunities for skilled technicians are abundant. With UTI’s commitment to supporting students and providing them with industry-aligned curriculum, the Rancho Cucamonga campus is a great place to start your training.
