GRADUATE TESTIMONIALS

Makenna Enga: Finding Confidence and Opportunity at Universal Technical Institute

For Makenna Enga, graduating from Universal Technical Institute (UTI) was more than just earning a diploma—it was the beginning of an exciting new chapter. "Today is definitely more than just a graduation," she shares. "It’s a step into adulthood and actually being in the real world and the workforce."1

Like many students considering a career in the skilled trades, Makenna was drawn to UTI because of its reputation and commitment to student success. "You see so many different ads for trade schools, but I think UTI was definitely the biggest one that wanted me to succeed," she explains. From student services to career support, Makenna felt encouraged every step of the way.

Support That Makes a Difference

One of the key factors in Makenna’s journey was the unwavering support from UTI’s instructors. "I would say all the instructors want you to succeed," she says. "If you talk to them about anything that you need... they really just want the best for you."

This supportive learning environment helped her not only gain foundational technical skills but also develop the confidence needed for the industry. "I think that I did as well as I did because of the instructors and how much they supported me."

Committing to Her Future

Makenna acknowledges that pursuing education is a significant investment, but she believes it was the right choice for her. "While it is expensive, I think every school is expensive," she says. "But here, you get the opportunity to learn about a trade and what you want to do in life, and also about pushing yourself, being a better person and growing up."

For Makenna, her time at UTI was about more than just technical training—it was about personal growth and preparation for the real world.

A Newfound Confidence

One of the biggest takeaways from her time at UTI? Confidence. "I am coming out a lot more confident as a technician, and I think that's huge in this industry," she shares.

That confidence has also extended beyond her career. Growing up in Colorado, Makenna never imagined leaving her home state. But her experience at UTI broadened her horizons. "Opportunities lie elsewhere sometimes," she reflects. "If I never came to school out here, I don’t think I ever would have moved. And now I’m like, I want to go everywhere."

A Passion for Lifelong Learning

Makenna's journey at UTI has ignited a passion for continuous growth and learning. "Every day that I walked into school at Universal Technical Institute, I was able to learn something new and push myself even farther," she says. "And I think that that was the most important thing."

As Makenna steps into her future, she carries with her not only the technical skills she honed at UTI but also the drive to keep learning and evolving. Her story is a testament to the impact of quality training, supportive mentors and the courage to step outside of your comfort zone.

If you're ready to take your first step toward a career in the skilled trades, UTI is here to help you gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed—just like it did for Makenna.1
