Student Services
Q. Do you supply books and tools to use while in school?
A. UTI/NTI/MMI provides all work book materials and most major tools. Students may be required to purchase an electric meter of other piece of specialty equipment depending on the program they enroll in.
Q. Do you offer a health/medical plan for students?
A. No, however, UTI/NTI/MMI maintains general liability insurance that covers students up to $5,000 for injuries sustained on its premises during normal class times.
Q. Is there tutoring available?
A. Yes, generally upon request and at the availability of an instructor.
Q. Do you offer job placement assistance?
A. Yes, both for local employment while attending UTI/NTI/MMI and upon graduation, however, UTI/NTI/MMI cannot guarantee employment to its graduates.
Q. After I complete the program, will you help me find a job?
A. Yes. Our Employment Services Department staff will take you through some basic job search training, help you market yourself to employers, develop a resume for you, provide you with leads from employers we know are hiring, and continue to work with you after graduation until you become employed in your field of training.
Q. How and when do I apply for Financial Aid?
A. Upon acceptance to UTI/NTI/MMI, you will receive a copy of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and information for applying on-line. You are required to complete this process upon receipt of these documents to ensure that our Financial Aid Department can process your paperwork and advise you of what you qualify for prior to your start.
Q. I know I do not qualify for Financial Aid, do I still have to apply?
A. If you are planning to apply for student and/or parental loans you are required to file, either by completing the FAFSA and mailing in or by applying online. Because online applications are processed more quickly, UTI/NTI/MMI encourages FAFSA completion online although this is not required.
Q. What types of jobs will be available to me while I am in school?
A. Most UTI/NTI/MMI students look for part-time jobs. The type of job will vary by campus location and by past work experience. UTI/NTI/MMI does not provide jobs but does provide a list of employers in the area who have an interest in hiring UTI/NTI/MMI students. Many of these jobs are entry level and pay minimum range. Students are encouraged, for budgeting purposes, to assume an hourly rate equivalent to minimum wage.
Q. What employment opportunities will be available to me upon graduation?
A. Our graduates start out as entry level technicians in dealerships, independent shops, specialty shops, trucking companies, construction companies, etc, and some choose careers in the Parts Industry. There is a shortage of trained technicians and there are many opportunities available to UTI/NTI/MMI graduates.
Q. Will I be ASE Certified upon graduation?
A. To become ASE certified you are required to have two years of work experience and pass ASE Certifications. Your training at UTI/NTI/MMI will count for one year of work experience, and UTI/NTI/MMI's curriculum satisfactorily prepares you for taking the ASE examinations. However, at least an additional year of work experience is required to be ASE Certified. (Refer to School Catalog for additional details. )
Q. How much vacation time do I get?
A. UTI/NTI/MMI does recognize legal holidays but there is no established vacation time, as classes are offered year round. Special consideration is provided for emergency cases, and handled through the Student Affairs Advisor or Student Services Director at the campus.
Q. Will I have to register my vehicle in the state my campus is located?
A. Laws vary from state to state. You can refer to the Student Services Director at your campus for verification.
Q. Does UTI provide help in locating housing?
A. Yes! In the Welcome Packet provided within a month of your acceptance is an overview of housing considerations. Approximately 60 days prior to your start date you will receive apartment information. This information will also outline the steps you must take in order to obtain housing. There are also housing coordinators at the campus who can assist you with any questions you may have. Each student is responsible for determining and securing appropriate housing. Dorms are not provided.
Q. When will I receive my schedule?
A. Your schedule will be provided during Welcome Week and after you have completed the financial aid process.
Q. Do I get to choose my session?
A. Class sessions are automatically assigned.
Q. What if I am working and my class schedule conflicts with my work schedule?
A. Modification to the schedule can be considered but only for those students who provide proof of employment schedule. You can contact your Student Relations Coordinator at the campus for assistance with this once you have located a job.
Q. What additional items do I have to pay for prior to starting class?
A. There are two items you will have to pay for during Welcome Week - the digital multi-meter fee ($105 - $110) and the one time lab fee ($95). In certain cases you will also be required to purchase a calculator ($6). All book costs are included in the tuition price. Keep in mind that you will also need to save enough money prior to starting class to cover the first one to two months of expenses.

Q. Do I need a high school diploma to attend?
A. Generally, yes. Please see the specific requirements here and in the school catalog.

Q. Do you offer degrees?
A. At this time, the UTI Phoenix campus is the only campus approved to offer an Associates of Occupational Studies degree. All other campuses offer either diploma or certificate level programs.
Q. What about the manufacturer specific "graduate programs"?
A. These programs offer graduates the opportunity for tuition-paid advanced manufacturer specific training for those who meet the various manufacturers' entrance requirements. These programs are not considered within the scope of the accredited approved programs offered by UTI. The programs are offered through a UTI subsidiary, Custom Training Group (CTG).

A. Financial aid in the form of Federal student loans and grants is available to those who qualify and are eligible.

A. Yes, each UTI/NTI/MMI campus is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT) as a recognized accrediting agency by the U. S. Department of Education.
Q. Is your school licensed?
A. Yes, each UTI campus is licensed in the states in which campuses are located.
Q. What agencies and organizations recognize your school?
A. Many UTI campuses are recognized and accept students from the Veterans Administration, Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and other third-party sponsors and rehabilitation agencies. Most UTI campuses are approved for Veterans training, however, a school must have been in operation for two consecutive years prior to receiving VA approval to receive Veterans benefits. Check with the campus you would like to attend to be sure they are approved.
