Frequently Asked Questions
As an auto or diesel mechanic, you’ll use basic math like fractions and measurements when working on engines and parts. These are skills UTI’s instructors walk you through step by step.
Enrolling at UTI is simple. You’ll just need to be at least 18 years old, or 16 with a guardian to execute enrollment, and have a high school diploma, GED certificate or an equivalent credential. You don’t need prior trade skills, entry exams or a specific high school GPA to get started.
UTI's admissions fees cover a digital multimeter and a laptop for coursework. These are the only items you need to buy. If you already have equipment that meets UTI’s requirements, those fees can be waived. All other tools and shop equipment needed for hands-on training are provided on campus!18
UTI does not directly award ASE certification. However, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence recognizes UTI’s training as one of the two years of relevant experience needed to test for the certification.
UTI’s automotive and diesel programs are also accredited by the ASE Education Foundation, so you get training aligned with industry standards that employers value!16
