Bloomfield Commuter Grant Overview

To assist students who show exceptional financial need. The grant will provide financial support to enrolled students with the greatest financial need and thus face a hardship starting their education.

This grant is available for students starting school on 5/20/2019 or 7/1/2019, who live less than 50 miles from and are attending the Universal Technical Institute campus located in Bloomfield, NJ. This grant is intended to assist eligible students during the early months of their program by covering the cost of the Lab Fee and the Meter Fee ($215), and providing assistance for commuting expenses to school of $800 (4 disbursements of $200). The first disbursement will be at registration/orientation of $200 with disbursements to follow every 30 days thereafter of $200 for the remaining 3 months.

The total value of this grant will not exceed $1,015 ($215 Lab/Meter Fee & $800 transportation support).

This grant will be awarded to all students who meet the eligibility criteria; there is no separate application process.

Criteria for Awarding the Scholarship

Eligibility will be based on proximity to the campus** and financial need as determined by the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) calculated by the US Dept. of Education as a result of a student completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who have an EFC of $3,000 or less, and who have a proximity* to the campus of less than 50 miles will be eligible for the grant.

Eligibility Details:

  • Students will forfeit their grant eligibility and/or award if they cancel or postpone beyond the latest applicable start date.
  • Students receiving the Articulation Discount or the Salute to Service Scholarship, or any other UTI need based grant/scholarship, are not eligible for the Bloomfield Commuter Grant. If students are eligible for any of those programs, as well as the Bloomfield Commuter Grant, they will need to choose which they wish to accept.
  • Eligibility will be based on the approved FAFSA results sent to the school, called an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) that is on file for the 2020 financial aid award year. An approved ISIR meeting the EFC criteria must be received by the school no later than 9 days following the student’s start date to be considered eligible.
  • A student’s proximity to the campus will be based on the address provided at the time the student initially provided their information to the school.
  • Only students enrolled to start at the Bloomfield campus for the 5/20/2019 or 7/1/2019 start date will be eligible for this grant.

*Proximity will be calculated using the latitude and longitude of the initial address provided to the school, compared with the latitude and longitude of the campus location.
