Institutional Grant Overview

Objective

To provide Institutional Grants for students who are attending Universal Technical Institute, Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, Marine Mechanics Institute or NASCAR Technical Institute campuses (specific campus/program eligibility criteria listed below) with demonstrated financial need. The grant will be available to all students who meet the eligibility criteria as defined below; there is no separate application process. The grant award will be 10% of program tuition and will be available to students who live, or are relocating from, at least 50 miles from the campus they are attending. Criteria for Awarding the Grant

Eligibility will be based on proximity to campus* and financial need as determined by the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) or Student Aid Index (SAI), which is calculated by the US Dept. of Education as a result of a student completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Unless otherwise stated, students meeting the following eligibility criteria will be initially eligible for the grant:  

  • Enrolled to attend an eligible campus/program,
  • Enrolled more than 30 days prior to their start date,
  • Have a proximity to the campus of at least 50 miles;
  • Students completing a 2023/2024 FAFSA who have an EFC of 11,000 or less, or  
  • Students completing a 2024/2025 FAFSA who have an SAI of 8,000 or less

Eligibility Details

  • Eligible students will forfeit their grant eligibility and/or award if they cancel or postpone beyond the latest applicable start date.
  • Students receiving the Institutional Grant are not eligible to receive the: Relocation Grant, Technical Education Institutional Grant, Salute to Service Grant, or any other UTI need based grant/scholarship/tuition reduction program. If students are eligible for any of the above-mentioned programs, as well as the Institutional Grant, they will need to choose which program they wish to accept.
  • Initial eligibility will be based on the approved FAFSA results sent to the school, called an Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) that is on file. For the 2023/2024 financial year, an approved ISIR meeting the EFC criteria must be received. For the 2024/2025 financial year, an approved ISIR meeting the SAI criteria must be received. Criteria must be received by the school no later than 9 days following the student’s start date to be considered eligible.
  • A student’s proximity to the campus will be based on the address provided at the time the student initially provided their information to the school.

Program variations:

Eligible start dates: October 1, 2023, through September 30, 2024

Eligible campuses: All Universal Technical Institute campuses, NASCAR Technical Institute, Motorcycle Mechanics Institute and Marine Mechanics Institute

  • Automotive, Diesel, Automotive/Diesel, Airframe & Powerplant Technician, Motorcycle Technician, Marine Technician, CNC Machining Technology, Collision Repair and Refinishing Technology, Robotics & Automation Technician, Wind Turbine Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, HVACR Technician program(s): Students enrolled in one of these programs, who have an EFC of 11,000 or less, and who have a proximity to the campus of 50 miles or greater, the 30-day enrollment prior to start date requirement has been removed. Please reference flyer for specific campus/start date/program to view grant funding and distribution.

*Proximity will be calculated using the latitude and longitude of the initial address provided to the school, compared with the latitude and longitude of the campus location.

**Laptop and meter are provided, and the dollar amounts cannot be exchanged for cash value or applied toward tuition.

Process and Rules

  • Only one award will be given per student.
  • Any grants awarded are not transferable to any other person.
  • Unless otherwise stated, the Institutional Grant will be applied as a credit against tuition and will not be issued to the student in the form of cash.
  • In the event of withdrawal, suspension or termination from school, the award will be subject to prorated loss for the portion of program not attended.
  • For grant disbursements made after the completion of the fifth (5th) course: students must be actively attending and in good standing at the completion of their fifth (5th) course in order to receive the indicated disbursement.
    • Student may take an approved LOA prior to the successful (passing grade) completion of 5 courses and not forfeit the $2,000 award.
    • If student withdraws prior to the successful (passing grade) completion of 5 courses, the student will forfeit the $2,000 award even if they re-enroll at a later date.
  • Universal Technical Institute, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively “UTI”) are committed to education and work communities that are free from prohibited discrimination and harassment.   • Admissions Representatives may not provide any guidance beyond general information about the availability of this grant and must refer prospective students to the Financial Aid office for more detailed information. Grants shall not be used as a recruiting device. Funding for this program is limited and the program may be suspended at any time at UTI’s discretion. Such a suspension will not affect awards to students who are awarded a grant under this program prior to the suspension date.
