1200 Students And Parents To Converge At UTI On Friday

− Open House to Help Students Explore Technical Education Opportunities −

Avondale, Ariz. (January 22, 2008) – With only five months until graduation, area high school seniors are facing a major life decision – what next? College, a technical education or the working world?

Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a national leader in technical education training for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, will host an open house for 1200 attendees, including students representing 11 high schools from across the state, parents, and school personnel, at its Avondale campus, located at 10695 W. Pierce Street, on Friday, January 25, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Students participating in the school-sponsored field trip will travel from high schools, such as Glendale, Flagstaff, Lake Havasu, Tuba City and Globe, to visit UTI’s campus and learn about automotive and other technical education opportunities. The event is geared to students who may be evaluating or interested in pursuing a technical career versus a four-year college education.

“Transitioning from high school is full of challenges, especially if students decide that a four-year university isn’t right for them,” said Michael Romano, UTI Avondale campus president. “Although the event will be fun, it is intended to highlight the diverse and rewarding careers available to professional automotive technicians. UTI’s track-record of placing graduates in lucrative jobs with opportunity for growth shows that our top priority is helping people find a career they are passionate about.”

According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, one of the top news sources for college faculty and administrators, 42 percent of Arizona’s high school graduates go on to college.  What about the other 58 percent?

Those attending the open house will have the opportunity to tour the facility, speak to staff and see the latest auto diagnostic equipment. “Grave Digger” creator and professional Driver Dennis Anderson will be on site with the popular 10,000 pound monster truck, to address the crowd and sign autographs. Other scheduled attractions include the Spark Plug Challenge, a contest rewarding the fastest spark plug changer; tire change challenge, as well as food and music from local radio stations KUPD (4-6 p.m.) and KDKB (6-8 p.m.).

There is no charge to attend the event and everyone is welcome, including individuals exploring career changes who may be well out of high school and monster truck enthusiasts.
